Associate Veterinarian

Mission Viejo Veterinary Hospital is a small animal, 4-doctor practice looking to round out our team with an Associate Veterinarian.  We are proud to serve the greater Aurora community and have built a loyal and dedicated clientele over the last four decades.  As a progressive and established practice, our goal is to always emphasize quality diagnostics and client education.

About Mission Viejo Veterinary Hospital

Our hospital is fully equipped with digital x-ray and digital dental x-ray machines and an in-house Idexx lab.  We have a board-certified radiologist to perform ultrasounds and a boarded surgeon to perform advanced procedures, in addition to our own soft-tissue surgeries.  We also have a tremendous support staff who is always willing to go above and beyond.  Coupled with our collegial atmosphere, we promise you’ll love working here!

Qualifications Desired:

Veterinary Technician

Description

The Veterinary Technician will be responsible for inpatient care; surgical monitoring; dental procedures (within the allowable limits provided by the law in Colorado); radiology; sample collection and diagnostics; and client services. We are looking for applicants who have a strong work ethic and want to practice at the highest level of their abilities. Our doctors take the time with the clients and staff to explain procedures, and we expect our staff to practice the same level of caring communication in dealing with clients. The salary for the Veterinary Technician position is commensurate with experience.

Job Requirments

The Veterinary Technician job requires a 32-40 hour work week, with possible intermittent weekends, holidays, overtime, and/or evening work. Compliance with the hospital safety and employee policy manual is expected. The Veterinary Technician will have frequent contact with clients and patients in a fast-paced and changing work environment. He/she must be comfortable working around sick, injured, or unruly animals in an environment where the noise level can be moderate to very loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: walk: use hands and fingers to reach or feel: climb, balance, stoop, kneel or, crouch. The employee must be able to lift up to 35-40 lbs. unassisted and up to over 100 lbs. with assistance.

Qualifications Desired:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current CVT license in the state of Colorado or a minimum of two years working in a veterinary hospital
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in a high volume and potentially stressful environment

Customer Service Representative

Description

The Customer Service Representative will serve as a direct liaison between our clients and veterinarians, ensuring that both the patients’ needs and clients’ expectations are met.  He/she will be responsible for communicating treatment plans; maintaining meticulous patient records and documentation of client communications; processing patients’ prescriptions, and collecting payment for services rendered. The Customer Service Representative will also be required to answer incoming phone calls and emails in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner. This position reports to the Practice Manager and will also receive direction from the Lead Technician, Associate Veterinarians, and Medical Director.

Job Requirements

The Customer Service Representative must possess the ability to work well with people, displaying empathy and understanding while supporting the philosophies and procedures of the hospital. The position requires being able to communicate tactfully and maintain calm compassion in emotional situations, as well as to generally provide our clients with an experience that goes above and beyond their expectations.  The Customer Service Representative must be comfortable interacting with animals and working in an environment that can become busy, loud, and/or stressful.

Veterinary Assistant

Description

The Veterinary Assistant will have responsibilities in multiple aspects of the hospital’s operations, including animal care and treatment, customer service, and housekeeping duties. The Veterinary Assistant will play a significant role in aiding the staff’s Veterinary Technicians in daily clinical operations and supporting the needs of the team during medical procedures. We are looking for applicants who have a strong work ethic and want to practice at the highest level of their abilities. This position reports to the Practice Manager and will also receive direction from the doctors, Veterinary Technicians, Associate Veterinarians, and the Medical Director. Tasks assigned to the Veterinary Assistant may include:

  • Providing compassionate care to patients and clients.
  • Conducting oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks.
  • Legibly keeping accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Preparing and maintaining the exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Performing physical assessments; record observations legibly in files or computers.
  • Effectively restraining patients, even when large or difficult.
  • Knowledge of all common vaccines and vaccination protocols and can explain to clients in a professional manner.
  • Understanding the importance of a clean and orderly facility does not hesitate to clean or organize as part of normal job duty.
  • Maintaining positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
  • Preparing estimates for procedures and discussing financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies.
  • Explaining all necessary follow-up and homecare instructions.
  • Properly caring for all surgical materials and equipment; keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
  • Setting up clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, ear cytology, and fungal cultures; maintaining a file of lab test results and ensuring that test results are recorded in patient records.
  • Knowledge of appropriate patient positioning for radiographs. Taking radiographs.
  • Understanding the use and care of IV pumps.
  • Admitting patients following hospital policy and doctor’s written orders.
  • Discharging patients based on the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring that patients are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
  • Performing other duties as assigned including assisting in other areas.
Job Requirements

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills
  • Ability to take direction, retain information, and ask questions when clarification is needed
  • Understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) basic medical terminology and minor, routine veterinary procedures
  • Ability to recognize certain predictive behaviors in animals
  • Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in a high volume and potentially stressful environment
  • Demonstrates professionalism and good judgment
  • Regular and timely attendance is required
  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when stressed, ill, or in pain.
  • Can remain calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
